Green Detox Juice! Should we cleanse regularly?

This post may contain affiliate links

When we are toxic… the mechanism for detoxification in the liver gets sluggish, and toxins can remain active longer in our bodies than we want or than our systems can handle. This makes us sick and impedes normal metabolism. It also causes fluid retention and bloating.

To make a litre of this delicious cleansing juice, I blended:

Key Ingredients

🌱 Kiwis
🌱Apples
🌱Celery stalks
🌱Ginger
🌱 Lemon with skin

Notes on ingredients

A complete list of ingredients with the exact amounts and step-by-step instructions you can find in the RECIPE CARD below.

Kiwis – Make sure when you buy them they are not too hard or soft. If they are hard they are usually bitter and if they are too soft the skin can be difficult to remove.

Apples – I like to use bright red apples or golden delicious. These types are often sweet with are perfect for juicing. I do remove the skin and eat it separately.

Celery Stalks – I used a few thin organic celery stalks.

Ginger – Apart from its health benefits, ginger gives the juice an exotic touch of spice.

Lemon – I leave the lemon skin on for juicing.

How to make summary

It’s as easy as popping all the ingredients into a liquidiser and blending them at full speed to get a wonderful bubbly juice.

While cleansing it is important to use organic products. I only peeled the kiwis, I blended all the remaining ingredients with their skins. You want to make sure you’re feeding your body with fresh clean ingredients.

Kiwi Health Benefits

Many of us love kiwis, also known as Chinese gooseberry, kiwis have several health benefits to offer. you might like to know they are bursting with vitamin C, they have a good source of vitamin K which promotes blood clotting and they are loaded with fibre, folate, copper, potassium, and antioxidants. They also contain an enzyme called bromelain (bromelain can fight inflammation and improve digestion in the body).

Kiwellin and kissper are also two proteins found in kiwi fruit that may have anti-inflammatory properties. All of these nutrients are essential for our health and the optimal functioning of our bodies. Kiwis are available fresh, dried, or as juice.

The Benefits of Detox

Why should we cleanse regularly?

Detoxification is one of the body’s most basic automatic functions of eliminating toxins through the liver, colon, kidneys, bladder, lungs, and skin. When we are toxic, the mechanism for detoxification gets sluggish, and toxins can remain active longer in our bodies than we want or than our systems can handle, this, in turn, makes the perfect environment for us to get sick.

A detox diet is needed to get rid of these toxins, this is why it’s recommended a good detox diet at least four times a year. Our entire system works more efficiently after a detox.

What Fruits and Vegetables to use in a Detox Drink?

Lemons and other citric fruits such as oranges, limes, and grapefruits are great for detoxification. They are loaded with vitamin C which fights free radicals that damage your body. They are alkaline in property and help restore the body’s pH balance. This is the perfect money drink and will cleanse and boost your immunity.

Other Fruits: Berries and pineapple promote amazing skin and health benefits.

Vegetables: Popular and cleansing vegetables are cucumbers, spinach, avocado, beetroot, kale, and celery.

What are Detox Water-Based Drinks?

A detox water drink is a flavoured drink with fruit, vegetables, and water. These drinks are usually low in calories, have no artificial or added sugars, and usually, the fruit is organic. Detox waters can help with weight loss because in general, by drinking more water you become less hungry. Lemon and mint water are two of the most refreshing drinks and are perfect first thing in the morning for a cleansing effect. On the other hand, strawberry and pineapple water are sweet and hydrating, particularly preferred for warmer months. Watermelon, mango, grapefruit, strawberry, and lime water is a sweet and zesty beverage that’s perfect before and after sport.

Why drink Lemon Water first thing in the morning?

The drink is inexpensive to make and has so many health benefits. They range from glowing skin to weight loss, boost energy and mood, aid in digestion and detoxification and prevents kidney stones. Lemons are packed in vitamin C and they are alkaline which helps restore the body’s PH balance. There are just so many benefits to drinking lemon water, it’s something that you should consider incorporating into your daily routine.

How to make Lemon Water

Usually, you will be able to find fresh lemons all year round. Try to opt for the bright yellow ones and organic ones if possible. Lemon water is a very simple procedure and it’s done by adding natural room temperature water to freshly squeezed lemon juice. it’s usually recommended the juice of at least half of a lemon to a full lemon, but you can use more.

The Effects of Alkaline Foods on our Bodies

Our body’s PH is essential for overall health. Unfortunately, the Western diet is full of processed foods, refined sugars, and chemical additives. In turn, all of these contribute to the overproduction of acid in the blood, which causes an imbalance in PH levels and the perfect environment for disease to thrive. Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning will not only cleanse your body it will help you balance your PH.

What Makes us in need of a Detox

Nowadays our bodies have a hard time keeping up and this could be due to:

  1. Emotional Stress
  2. Stimulants such as tea, coffee, and alcolhol
  3. Artificial sweeteners and chemical modified ingredients.
  4. Too much animal protein
  5. Too many food addiives
  6. Eating too many processed foods
  7. Inactivity
  8. The use of personal care products
  9. Polluted air
  10. Not drinking enough good quality water
